The College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Beijing University of Chemical Technology originated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which was established when Beijing University of Chemical Technology was founded in 1958. Initially, it offered three majors: Chemical Machinery and Equipment, Synthetic Material Processing Machinery, and Chemical Process Automation and Instruments. In March 2000, it was renamed the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

The College has a national first-level discipline doctoral program and a postdoctoral research station in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, three first-level discipline master's programs, and one second-level discipline master's program. Among them, Chemical Process Machinery is a national key discipline, Mechanical Design and Theory is a key discipline in Beijing, and Safety Engineering is a key interdisciplinary discipline in Beijing. The College offers three national first-class undergraduate majors and one first-class major in Beijing, as well as a "new engineering" major. It has established a comprehensive multi-level talent training system ("undergraduate-master-doctorate") and an academic and research innovation system ("theoretical research-technology innovation-engineering application"). It is a key construction unit of the "211 Project" and the "985 Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform".

The College has a strong faculty team led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and distinguished professors of the Changjiang Scholars Program, with innovative and dedicated young and middle-aged teachers as the backbone. Currently, the College has nearly 160 faculty members, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, four foreign academicians, one distinguished professor of the Ministry of Education's Changjiang Scholars Program, five new century talents of the Ministry of Education, one outstanding young talent in Beijing, one national outstanding teacher, five talents of the Beijing Science and Technology Nova Program, two young talents in Beijing, four teaching masters in Beijing universities, one outstanding teacher in Beijing, two national petroleum and chemical education teaching masters, two excellent teaching teams in Beijing (Process Equipment and Control Engineering Teaching Team, Intelligent Manufacturing Teaching Team for Material Forming), and one excellent teaching team in national petroleum and chemical education (Engineering Training Center Teaching Team). There are 104 faculty members with senior professional titles.

The College has six provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, including the National Key Laboratory of High-end Compressor and System Technology, the National Engineering Laboratory for Tire Design and Manufacturing Processes, the National Basic Research Laboratory for Fault Prevention and Monitoring of Hazardous Chemical Production Systems, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Engine Health Monitoring and Networking, and the Beijing Key Laboratory of High-end Mechanical Equipment Health Monitoring and Self-healing. Research achievements include two national second prizes for scientific and technological progress and 18 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards. It has built a series of scientific research devices, such as a test bench for a certain type of aero engine, and developed landmark achievements such as high-stability design methods for power machinery and remote monitoring and diagnosis systems. Over the past five years, the College has undertaken six national basic research projects, including national key research and development plans, basic strengthening plan projects, and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with various scientific research project funds exceeding 500 million yuan.

The College adheres to national major needs and the world's scientific and technological frontiers, cultivating natural science and engineering technology talents and interdisciplinary innovative talents with a national mission, social responsibility, solid theoretical foundation, innovative spirit, and practical ability in mechanical, power, energy, and safety-related disciplines. The College currently offers an Excellence Engineer Class, a High-end Power Equipment Health Intelligent Monitoring and Networking Interdisciplinary Class, and an Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Team Interdisciplinary Class, particularly emphasizing the cultivation of students' practical ability, innovative spirit, scientific research, and interdisciplinary innovation ability. It has established an advanced student scientific and technological innovation system.

The College attaches great importance to international talent training and has been approved to build the "Higher Education Discipline Innovation Intelligence Introduction Plan" (referred to as the "111 Plan"), jointly establishing international cooperation bases for advanced manufacturing interdisciplinary disciplines with the UK, the US, Germany, Ukraine, and other countries, and collaborating with famous universities in the US, the UK, Canada, Italy, Germany, and other countries for cooperative education and resource sharing, continuously making new progress in global talent training. The College also cultivates students' global competitiveness through various means such as summer overseas studies, joint training with foreign universities, and international courses. Currently, it has established "3+2" international cooperative training programs with more than 20 universities, including the National University of Singapore and the University of Toronto, and "2+2" international cooperative training programs with Kazan National Research Technological University in Russia.

The faculty members of the College place great emphasis on teaching research and reform. In recent years, they have hosted or participated in 15 national and provincial teaching reform projects. Excellent courses such as "Process Equipment Design," "Engineering Drawing," "Mechanical Principles," and "Process Equipment Control Technology and Application" have been approved as national quality courses and Beijing quality undergraduate courses ten times. They have published 27 textbooks, including "Chemical Engineering Drawing," "Mechanical Design," and "Mechanical Manufacturing Technology," and have won nine national teaching achievement second prizes and Beijing teaching achievement first prizes. Graduates are highly sought after, with an employment and further education rate of over 95%. Graduates mainly go to well-known enterprises at home and abroad such as China Aerospace, China National Nuclear Corporation, China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, Huawei, BYD, and Haier.

After decades of development, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering has formed a high-level teaching and research-oriented institution featuring Chemical Process Machinery and Equipment, Polymer Material Processing Technology and Equipment, Safety Engineering, and Robotics Engineering. It is a cradle for cultivating outstanding talents in the fields of high-end equipment and intelligent manufacturing in China.
