The practical education for the students majoring in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation has been successfully completed

Practical education is a key link in the cultivation of undergraduate talents and is of great significance for the development of students' innovative ability and engineering literacy. As an important part of practical education, the production internship has always been steadily advanced by the mechanical engineering department of Beijing University of Chemical Technology. In October 2025, over 170 senior students majoring in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation embarked on a one-week off-campus production internship, visiting Dalian Rubber and Plastic Machinery Co., LTD., Jinwei Machinery Group Co., LTD., Engel Injection Molding Machinery (Changzhou) Co., Ltd. and the Gu 'an Low-Carbon Technology and Artificial Intelligence Industry-University-Research Base of Beijing University of Chemical Technology for their internships.

At Dalian Rubber and Plastic Machinery Co., LTD., the students carried out a visit and study that was both professional and practical, focusing on the key equipment and processing techniques of the enterprise, and gained a comprehensive understanding of the main products and process system of Dalian Rubber and Plastic. In terms of key equipment, the students visited the structural composition and assembly process of the large-scale twin-screw granulation equipment, and learned about the functional positioning, type classification and applicable occasions of the equipment. We visited the structural composition of the calendering machine equipment and various products and semi-finished product samples prepared by the calendering method. In terms of processing technology, the students closely visited key production links such as gear processing, gearbox processing, mandrel processing and large twin-screw extruder barrel processing, and gained a concrete understanding of the processing flow of equipment components from raw materials to finished products. In addition, the students also delved deeply into the relevant content of welding quality process control. Through on-site observation and explanations, they systematically understood the specific parameter Settings of the welding process and the precautions during practical operation.

At Jinwei Machinery Group Co., LTD., the students visited the production workshops of Suzhou Jinwei Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Jinwei Intelligent Manufacturing Co., LTD., deeply participating in practical activities and technological exploration. During the visit to the production workshop and the R&D center, the students directly felt the diversified product layout of the company as a giant in the extrusion equipment industry. In terms of hollow molding equipment, the students visited a range of devices including all-electric small machines and large-scale production lines with three layers and four workstations. The all-electric series of these machines can save up to 50% to 60% of energy and integrate automated functions such as online leak detection and visual inspection. In the field of pipe materials, we visited the full range of production lines, including large-diameter HDPE solid-wall pipes, multi-layer composite pipes, and steel wire mesh skeleton reinforced pipes. The efficient screw design and intelligent control technology ensure high output and stability. In terms of sheet, plate and film, the students learned about the latest cutting-edge technologies, such as the geotextile membrane calendering production line with a width of up to 9 meters, the EVA/POE photovoltaic film production line applied in the new energy field, and the high-precision optical-grade PC/PMMA sheet production line. These devices have put forward extreme requirements for raw material plasticization, thickness uniformity and automatic control.

In addition, the students also visited Engel Injection Molding Machinery (Changzhou) Co., LTD., entering the production workshop and the R&D design department. They visited the highly automated production line and the precise and rigorous assembly process on the spot, experiencing Engel's innovative achievements in the injection molding field up close. The workshop master explained in detail to the students the components of the injection molding machine and the principle of injection molding Enable the abstract mechanical-related knowledge in the classroom to be deeply integrated with the specific scenarios of industrial production. In the professional knowledge lecture on injection molding machines, a senior technical expert from the Design Engineering Department elaborated in a simple and understandable way on the cutting-edge technologies, application scenarios and industry development trends of injection molding machines.

At the Gu 'an Low-Carbon Technology and Artificial Intelligence Industry-University-Research Base of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, students deeply participated in the production practice activities of seven research teams, including the "National Key Laboratory of High-End Compressor and System Technology" and the "Key Laboratory of Carbon Fiber and Functional Polymers of the Ministry of Education". In the "real-scene classroom" on the front line of scientific research, students closely track the research and development trajectory of core technologies, observe the entire process of scientific research projects from theoretical conception to experimental verification, and deeply integrate the abstract engineering principles in the classroom with the specific scenarios of scientific research practice. In addition, the group of teachers and students also visited Aerospace Zhenbang Precision Machinery Co., Ltd. and the intelligent sorting base of Shentong Express for enterprise visits. They respectively learned about the manufacturing system of national defense and military products and the intelligent operation logic of the automated sorting line, and directly experienced the full-chain transformation path of scientific and technological achievements from "laboratory incubation" to "industrial application".

This production internship is not only a "training ground" for students to transform theoretical knowledge into practical abilities, but also an "enlightenment class" for them to gain insights into industry development and determine their career directions. The students stepped out of the classroom and accumulated vivid practical experience from the front line of the industry, laying a solid foundation for their future in-depth study in the field of mechanical engineering and career development. In 2024, ENGEL China and our university launched a graduation design (thesis) cooperation project, initiating a new model for undergraduate graduation design at our university.
