On the morning of March 15, 2024, at 9:00 AM, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering organized full-time graduate counselors, graduate student party and league class leaders, and student representatives to watch the live broadcast of the "2024 Spring Semester School Fire Evacuation and Escape Drill" public lecture in Room 401 of the Science and Technology Building.
This safety public lecture was presented through a combination of indoor interactive broadcasting and outdoor live drills. It covered how to evacuate in an orderly manner and escape correctly in the event of a fire in different locations. The lecture also taught how to effectively extinguish fires caused by items such as trash cans, bed sheets, power strips, and electric bicycles. Additionally, it provided guidance on how to escape during an earthquake and what precautions to take when unable to escape, including how to safely wait for assistance.
After the live broadcast of the public lecture, Hou Mengjing, the Party Secretary of the Graduate Party Branch and full-time counselor of the college, emphasized that all student leaders must first raise their political awareness and integrate the conscious maintenance of campus safety into all aspects of study, research, and daily life. They should also convey the safety education training to all graduate students through Party and League branch meetings and class learning sessions. Secondly, she stressed the importance of enhancing safety awareness, urging students to treat various incidents, big or small, as warnings and always stay alert to the campus safety red line. Lastly, she encouraged students to play a leading role in promoting safety, with student leaders setting an example by strictly adhering to laboratory safety regulations and conducting research experiments in a standardized manner. On the afternoon of March 15, each graduate class, led by the Party branch secretaries, organized a session to watch the recorded public lecture, using political theory study sessions or themed class meetings.
This public lecture imparted essential "self-rescue and evacuation techniques" to students, greatly enhancing their fire safety awareness. It provided participants with efficient access to fire safety knowledge and taught them the correct methods for handling emergency situations. Additionally, this initiative aligns with the Ministry of Education and the National Fire Rescue Administration's notice on conducting the spring school fire evacuation drill, as well as the directives from relevant university departments. It serves as an important step for the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in implementing campus safety education. The college will continue to carry out safety education for both faculty and students, regularly conduct safety inspections, strengthen the safety measures, and ensure the well-being of students and the overall stability of the campus.
