The crisp and invigorating autumn days are a good time to begin anew. On August 28, 2019, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (CMEE) officially kicked off its freshmen reception work for Class 2019.
We are looking forward to meeting you, who all have a dream somewhere deep in their hearts!
We are here to create you an atmosphere teeming with passion, creativity and imagination that are unique to the studies of mechanical and electrical engineering.
We hope that you are fully prepared to embark on an exploration of mechanical and electrical engineering!
Preparation for Freshmen Orientation
By six o’clock in the morning, members of the Students’ Union and volunteer receptionists had already been fully prepared for the upcoming orientation event. With pre-allocated responsibilities, they collaborated with each other to make sure everything was timely arranged in place, waiting enthusiastically for the arrival of new students. The new student orientation program of the CMEE was initiated.
Upon setting foot on the campus of BUCT, freshmen would receive navigational guidance from volunteers responsible for receiving vehicles at the south gate, and be provided with a campus card requiring them to scan it and sign up to complete the first step of registration. New students received exquisitely designed postcards featuring BUCT and **all gifts symbolizing considerable expectations and a warm welcome from their upper schoolmates, allowing them to fall in love with the university at the first sight while genuinely perceiving such touching thoughtfulness.
The leadership team of the college also arrived early to inspect the site and asked caring questions about how the reception work was progressed.
Campus Tour
The campus tour, a “boutique” activity specially designed for new students, is committed to facilitating freshmen to have a full picture of what the campus is like and gain an initial experience of campus life in a novel manner. Meticulously designed “college passports” were issued to new comers, which allows them to travel around the campus and learn about BUCT while collecting stamps, helping lay a solid foundation for a **ooth transition to the upcoming campus life.
Taking Group Photos
In front of the poster wall of the CMEE were new students and parents taking their first photos to commemorate their first experience with the college. In our subsequent interview with some students, they expressed their delight and amazement about their first-time arrival at BUCT.
The interview was also joined by many parents who discussed their expectations towards their children, candidly admitting that they felt assured that BUCT was a great university for their kids to make substantial achievements given its strong academic atmosphere. We hope that this feeling of freshness will live on forever in their memories, and four years from now, they will be gratified that all things they have done are meaningful.
Care from University Leaders
On the very day of new student orientation, the leadership team of the university, including Zihuang Yuan, secretary of the CPC committee of the university, Tianwei Tan, deputy secretary of the CPC committee and president of the university, Xingang Ren, member of the standing CPC committee and vice president of the university, and Daolin Zha, member of the standing CPC committee and vice president of the university, visited CMEE where they inspected the college’s specialty exhibition area at the orientation venue, listened to the presentation provided by teacher Feng Wang and extended their compliment and encouragement regarding the scientific works by students of CMEE.
Specialty Exhibition Area
Exhibits displayed at CMEE's specialty exhibition area are classified into two categories: mechanical works and paintings. These works, which are highly relevant to the specialty programs offered by CMEE, were highly characteristic, providing new students with an intuitive insight to the CMEE.
Works like the “Carbonless Car”, “Robot”, “3D Printer”, “Compressor Pump” and “Crystal Sculpture” are mostly made by the maker spaces of the CMEE.
Artistic paintings are created by students in the major of design.
We hope that the specialty exhibition area meticulously arranged by us could inspire new students to move towards a more successful direction and fulfill their self-value.
Signing up for the “Green Channel”
At the day of new student orientation, part of the CMEE's stude
nts who come from impoverished families were eligible to receive a “Green Channel Caring Card” and a life-necessity voucher at the green channel window of the college. These students could pick up part of life and learning necessities at the university's green channel window by presenting their caring card, campus card and voucher. Providing logistics support for students from impoverished families is part of our effort to meet the “BUCT Commitment” - no student is allowed to drop out because of poverty, providing new comers with a family-like warmth.
Parents’ Meeting
To enhance a sense of assurance among parents and students, a parents’ meeting was held at room 204, floor A of CMEE’s teaching building on the afternoon of the orientation day. The meeting was presided over by Yang Weimin, the dean of CMEE. Mr. Yang provided a detailed introduction about the history, specialty programs, faculty strength, postgraduate programs and employment prospects of the college.
The introduction allowed parents to gain a thorough understanding of CMEE. Parents said that they felt pretty assured that their children could receive a great education at CMEE. The meeting was followed by a Q&A session in which Mr. Yang, as well as faculty members of the college, answered questions raised by parents.
The new student orientation was successfully concluded thanks to the persistent effort put by members the CMEE Students Union. In that process, they also presented extraordinary character and quality of students at CMEE.
