The Safety Engineering major at Beijing University of Chemical Technology is the national first-class undergraduate program major and one of the university's most supported majors, affiliated to the first-level discipline of Safety Science and Engineering.
The discipline of Safety Science and Engineering, the key interdisciplinary subjects in Beijing, as well as the key construction discipline in the 211 Project and the national 985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform, obtained the master's degree authorization in 2005. It operates high-level research institutions, such as the Emergency Management Department's Key Laboratory for Fault Prevention and Monitoring of Hazardous Chemical Production Systems, the National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Chemical Engineering Safety and Equipment, the Ministry of Education's Research Center for Chemical Engineering Safety, the Beijing Key Laboratory for Health Monitoring and Self-healing of High-end Mechanical Equipment, the Ministry of Education's Emergency Safety Industry-Education Alliance's Chemical Safety Committee, the PetroChina Equipment Remote Diagnostic Technology Center, the PetroChina Refining and Chemical Corrosion Protection Technology Center, and the Beijing University of Chemical Technology's Interdisciplinary Research Center for Chemical Engineering Safety, as well as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated Government-Enterprise-University professional talent training innovation practice base. Following years of development, a faculty team has been formed with a reasonable age structure, comprehensive knowledge, enthusiasm for education, and dedication (100% with doctoral degrees), including one chief scientist of the National Key R&D Plan, one Beijing Youth Talent, and one teaching master of Beijing University of Chemical Technology.
This major focuses on solidifying the foundation of natural sciences and the intersection and penetration with related disciplines in the cultivation of undergraduate and graduate students. They emphasize the combination of theory and practice in research work and the cultivation of innovative abilities, especially the cultivation of students' multidisciplinary knowledge integration and innovative conception and decision-making abilities. The main focus is on risk identification methods and technologies, safety testing and monitoring, equipment integrity management, safety regulations and accident investigation, and the modern safety management technology system, aiming to cultivate senior composite engineering and technical talents with a solid foundation in chemical safety theory, rich practical experience, and excellent scientific and technological innovation capabilities.
Graduates can obtain employment offers from major national petrochemical and important manufacturing groups, such as PetroChina, CNOOC, Sinopec, China National Chemical Corporation, China Shenhua Energy Company Limited, China Tianchen Engineering Corporation, BASF Germany, DuPont USA, BYD, Wanhua Chemical Group and Tianjin Rianlon New Materials Co., Ltd., among other well-known domestic and international enterprises; or they can pursue further studies at renowned universities, including Tsinghua University, Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Central South University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, University of Sheffield, University of Aberdeen, and the University of Hong Kong. As of 2024, more than 700 safety professionals have been offered for society, and many graduates have become senior technical backbones and key management personnel in well-known enterprises such as China National Chemical Corporation, Sinopec, China Tianchen Engineering Corporation, and DNV.
